Jane

Jane Atieno Odongo is my official name. Wendy has however gradually become my street name. I am a First born of five.I am fluent in English, Swahili and Luo and bit of kamba and currently trying to perfect on sign language.I am currently a third year student at Kenyatta university, taking Finance and also working as a digital operator at Digital Divide Data limited Kenya. I am a life member of Jeshy Family Sacco and a co-founder of Squad Goals KE initiative.
I am a singer and songwriter. I'm also a vocal trainer to those that love music and have passion for it. The Lord has given me the wisdom to train and teach beyond my skill, it always blows my mind. I am a member of different music bands: Amara the Band, Kilele the Band, also the founder of Noble Voices Band. I have done a song with Kilele the Band, called Amani Kenya and done two singles. I have also served as a Worship leader at RGC-Huruma.

Tell us about your passions and interests...
Music forms a major part of my life. I enjoy great music especially that which combines talent, skill, passion and creativity. For me, it's not just about doing a song, but skillfully so. Giving detail to every time, key, vocal, beat etc. It's like cooking, making sure you have everything in their right proportions.
My heart also goes Out to women ministry. Growing around a community where girls barely transit from highschool to institutions of tertiary education, I have had to make a deliberate decision to be the deference my society so badly needs. Each day as I wake up to school and to work, I know I'm not doing it for me but for those coming after me. To have them know that it is possible to hold through to the end, against all odds. I admire women interest groups. Especially them that have their ground in the Lord. What better way to train a lady than to teach her the ways of her Lord? I love being in a community of women who have the drive to hold each others hand and offer solutions to the society. My interest in women has seen me birth a ministry called Reclaiming Women of Worth.

What are your hobbies?
Well, already established, I love music. I listen in a lot. I also enjoy having conversations with friends. Conversations that build and grow my person. My friends say I can dance. I believe my light weight gives me an edge in that (laughs). I love shopping. Especially looking out for unique clothes, and making them work. I also have a taste for good food.

What is your greatest fear?
I would not like to die having not accomplished my purpose. Life could only be as meaningful as I keep living out my purpose. To me, that is a daily walk. I need to get it right each day.

What would you consider to be the thorn in your flesh?
Impatience. I have little or no tolerance for snarlup. I have specific liking for things to go in a certain way, failure to which I get imbalanced. I have had to learn to be flexible, to extend grace and to take In disappointment without breaking down. I have had to learn to rely on the Lord to keep teaching me to be patient and gracious.

My main challenge however has been in maintaining a balance between school ,ministry and work. And Like I said, it's a matter of self determination and necessity. I wouldn't say it's been easy. Most times there are overlaps that cost me a lot. I'm however grateful that I have managed to rise each time I've been on a fall.

What are you currently working on?
(pause)  wow. Quite a handful. I'm currently doing school and work. It is nothing easy. Let us just say it's an issue of determination and necessity. One has to do what they have to do. I thank God for the grace. I'm also learning how to play the saxophone and later the piano and bass guitar. Alongside some friends, I am working on growing the Reclaiming Women of Worth ministry to broaden it's reach and deepen it's impact. I'm also excited to let you know that I'm working on my second song. It should be out soon. (smiles)

Paint us a picture of Jane in five years..
I am quite expectant. The future surely is promising. It actually feels like I just started living. Honestly. So looking into five years, there's just so much. To begin with, I'll be done with school and fully immersed in Financial consultancy. I look to setting up a chain of businesses mostly fashion related. A clothe line is not bad an idea. I also look forward to growing in my ministry. That in five years I will have reached my family, city, nation and the world for Christ. Even if all else was to fail, I would pray that I remain on course with my mission, to reach the world with the Love of God.
